Switch the controller to its off or standby setting so the system is not quietly cycling on cold spring nights. Give the sensor a gentle cleaning and note anything that looked off during the winter while it is fresh in your mind.

Spring is also the best time for repairs. If you noticed cold spots or an area that never quite cleared, this is when an installer can investigate without fighting the weather. Diagnosing a buried element is far easier on a dry, mild day than during a January storm.

Summer: protect the surface above the system

Warm months ask little of you, but a few habits protect the investment underneath. Keep heavy point loads off the driveway where you can. A dropped trailer jack or a jack stand from a car repair can dig into the surface and, on a shallow installation, sit uncomfortably close to the heating layer.
